Tier 3 Financial Institutions .

These are not authorized to establish checking accounts or deal in foreign exchange. The companies are authorized to take in customer deposits and establish savings accounts and provide collateralized and non-collateralized loans to savings and non-savings customers. Their activities are supervised by the Bank of Uganda, Uganda's Central Bank.

FINCA Uganda Limited
FINCA Uganda Limited, also known as FINCA Uganda, is an MDI (Microfinance Deposit-taking Institution) in Uganda. It is a subsidiary and member organization of FINCA International, headquartered in the United States of America.

The headquarters of FINCA Uganda Limited are located at 22 Ben Kiwanuka Street, in Central Kampala, Uganda's capital city. This location, on the western slopes of Nakasero Hill, is in the Kampala's central business district. The coordinates of this location are: Latitude:0.3108; Longitude:32.5767).
FINCA Uganda Limited is licensed as a Microfinance Deposit-taking Institution (MDI). Its MDI license was issued in 2004. The institution provides financial services to Uganda's lowest-income entrepreneurs with the aim of creating jobs, building assets and improve their standard of living. As an MDI, FINCA Uganda is a Tier III Financial Institution. It is therefore prohibited from dealing in foreign exchange and cannot issue checking accounts. As of December 2009, the institution's asset base was in excess of US$17.6 million dollars, with over 40,000 deposit accounts and over 45,000 loan accounts. The shareholders' equity in the institution totaled about US$8.2 million at that time.

In keeping with the mission objectives of the institution, the majority of loans (66%) are made to poor entrepreneurial women, with an average loan being US$220.

Pride Microfinance Limited.

The headquarters of PML are located in Metropole House, on Entebbe Road, in the central business district of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. This location is situated on the western slopes of Nakasero Hill, close to the junction between Entebbe Road and Market Street. The coordinates of this location are:00 18 41N, 32 34 53E (Latitude:0.3113; Longitude:32.5814).
PML was founded in 1995. In 2005, it attained the status of an Microfinance Deposit-taking Institution according to the Banking Act of 2003. It is licensed and supervised by the Bank of Uganda, Uganda's Central Bank. It is a member of the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Uganda (AMFIU).
As of December 2009, PML had 186,322 depositors with a total of US$13.5 million in deposits, averaging US$73 per depositor. There were 60,276 loan accounts, with an average loan amount of US$421 borrower, for a total loan book of US$25.4 million.
As of December 2010, the institution's total assets were valued at approximately US$34 million (UGX:79.61 billion), with shareholders' equity of approximately US$7.7 million (UGX:17.95 billion). At that time, the MFI had 231,076 depositors, of whom 66,179 were active borrowers as well.
Pride Microfinance Limited is owned 100% by the Ugandan Government.Pride Microfinance Limited maintains its headquarters in Metropole House on Entebbe Road, in the central business district of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. The entire branch network of the company includes the following locations, as of March 2010:

Uganda Finance Trust Limited
The headquarters of UFTL are located on Plot 121 & 115, Block 6, Finance Trust Building, Katwe, in the central business district of Kampala, Uganda's capital city. The coordinates of the institution's headquarters are: Latitude:0.3020; Longitude:32.5765.
UFTL was founded in 1984 to provide financial services to low income people in Uganda, especially women. It is one of the oldest microfinance companies in the county.
As of December 2010, the institution services nearly 160,000 deposit accounts, through a network of twenty-eight (28) interconnected branches, located in all regions of the country. The average savings account is valued at US$62 and the total amount of deposits is just under US$9.65 million. UFTL maintains nearly 22,900 loan accounts with an average loan size of US$650 and a total loan portifolio of US$14.7 million. Total Assets at the end of 2010 were valued at US$21.4 million.
In September 2011, Ugandan print media reported that UFTL had received a Tier-I banking licence from the Bank of Uganda and had 12 months from then, to transform into a commercial bank.

UGAFODE Microfinance Limited

The headquarters of UGAFODE are located at 11-13 Nkrumah Road, in the central business district of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.
UGAFODE was founded in 1994 as Uganda Agency for Development Limited, a NGO, whose primary objective was to provide affordable financial services to its customers. In September 2010, in preparation to become a Deposit-Taking Microfinance Institution (MDI), UGAFODE Microfinance Limited was incorporated as a Limited Company.
 In 2011, the institution took on eight (8) new shareholders, including Dr. Ezra Suruma, former Uganda's Minister of Finance from 2005 until 2009, and current senior advisor for Finance and Planning to the President of Uganda.
