Katara Safari Lodge.
Katara Lodge is a good place from where to tour queen Elizabeth national park, which is a habitat for dense papyrus swamps, crater lakes, the extensive Maramagambo Forest and the forested Kyambura Gorge, are home to almost 100 mammal species including chimpanzees and over 600 bird species.
- The materials used in the construction of the lodge were all gathered locally from renewable sources.
- Extensive rain water harvesting, heating all the water using solar water heaters.
- Ultra low flush toilets throughout the lodge.
Similarly, all lighting and electrical outlets are solar powered and use low energy CF or LED bulbs. - Salt water swimming pool further reduces our reliance on harmful chemicals.
Accommodation
7 luxurious thatched cottages which combine wooden floors, grass thatched roofs and canvas that can be folded away & 6 regular cottages and one family cottage.
The regular cottages have one large open sleeping and sitting area, with a double bed and a four poster star bed that can be wheeled out onto the veranda to sleep directly under the starlit African sky (only recommended during the dry season!). The bathrooms are luxuriously fitted – the romantic roll top bath, or the invigorating rain shower.
The family cottage has two separate bedrooms, a small sitting area, and a bathroom. It has a double bed in one bedroom, and two single beds in the other bedroom, with space for a third bed if you are travelling with three children, a small private outside sitting area with a swing couch and two hammocks is also available.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is a wonderful park with an incredible biodiversity. Its stunning territory includes open savannah, dense papyrus swamps, crater lakes, the extensive Maramagambo Forest and the forested Kyambura Gorge. The park boasts almost 100 mammal species and over 600 bird species.
